Welcoming participation, pride, and belonging
Neighborhoods are a wellspring of social connection and cultural identity for residents. But decades of systemic neglect in parts of our cities have foreclosed on that promise. Here Pillsbury United Communities is a force for renewal, joining with our neighbors to build a more livable and inclusive community block by block.
Place
Creativity for livability
We use the tools of art and civic engagement to enhance the distinctive social and physical character of our urban corridors for everyone who lives there.
Grassroots connections
By creating more vibrant neighborhoods where people feel they belong and believe they can make good things happen, we lay foundation for a proud and resilient community.
Boosting the signal.
Each issue of North News works to deepen empathy and appreciation for North Minneapolis through original reporting and insightful stories — all told from a Northside perspective. A training ground for a new generation of journalists, the paper puts youth in the driver’s seat from start to finish.
“Creative placemaking is imagining something that never existed before and making it, together, in community.” — Noel Raymond, Co-Creative Director Pillsbury House + Theatre

Creative Placemaking
Our community development initiatives foster people’s intrinsic connections to their neighborhoods and to each other. Bringing together local artists side by side with community members, these projects knit creativity into the neighborhood to beautify our city and open platforms for expression.
Community Voice
Everyone has the capacity to join and enrich the community conversation. Through participatory community media and arts experiences, we amplify underrepresented voices in our community. We offer people of all ages the chance to use their creativity, share their stories, and shape the narrative of their neighborhood.
Civic Engagement
Civic engagement is threaded into all our work, welcoming neighbors to be part of change in their community and to guide the systems that affect their lives. We hold space for important conversations and empower our neighbors to drive the agenda, from political organizing to city planning.
